Simply put, we are a small group of your neighbors utilizing the
Toastmasters' program in an effort to become more comfortable while speaking in
public. Each individual sets his or her own goals. If you choose to
become a member, you would be under no obligation to speak, but
understanding that you will improve one presentation at a time. The
official Toastmaster response to your question is that we are part of an
International Organization established to provide a mutually supportive and positive
learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop
communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and
personal growth
A partial sampling of our members include teachers, a writer,
a dietitian, a CEO, a real estate agent, a furniture salesman, a manager, a
factory worker, and an old retired guy. As you can see, no matter what
your occupation or background, you will be comfortable here. You are
welcome to sit in as a guest on any meeting of our Club or any
other Toastmaster Club. We are one of 10,500 Clubs worldwide, 6,895 in
the US, and growing.
Probably the easiest way to get the information on
Quinbaug Valley Toastmasters is just to drop in on a meeting as a
guest. No announcement or prior arrangements needed. We meet on the
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, at the Joshua Center, behind the
Trinity Episcopal Church, at the intersection of routes 6 and 169 in
Brooklyn. Meetings start promply at 7:00 pm and usually last an
hour and a half. Dress and conversation is casual. If you have any
questions not answered here, feel free to contact us by phone
or email.
If you find that the organization meets your needs and you were to enroll, there is a one-time charge of $20 for a new member kit and processing by Toastmasters International, and a semi-annual dues of $35 (of which the local club keeps $8).
